WHY FELT DECOR?

In 2015 I became obsessed with felt Christmas decorations (think Bucilla stockings: the more sequins, the better!) I spent days drooling over the different kits. I would always make a cup of hot coffee to enjoy while pouring over each new catalog when it arrived. There were many countless hours stitching up cute little Christmas decorations.

When I started posting what I was working on many friends messaged me with stories of fond memories of stockings and decorations that their grandmothers or aunts or mothers had sewn for them. I loved that these ornaments and stockings held such strong memories for people.

I fell in love with the medium of felt and began making my own ornaments and designs. I take inspiration by the everyday things that make us happy. My hope is that my pieces can create a new generation of happy memories for people, just as those stockings did in the past. Whether it's something to decorate your Christmas tree, or mantle, or desk I hope it will bring you that happy, cozy feeling of content when you look at it.

HOW DID THE SHOP BEGIN?

In the fall of 2018 I started thinking, "Hey, I could really get into this!" I have been an avid crafter for as long as I can remember. There have been many times people have said "You should sell that!" but there wasn't anything I felt passionate enough about to create over and over. It was different with my felt creations, though. With such a kind and receptive response by friends and family my shop Felt Like October was finally launched!

WHO ARE YOU?

My name's Alex. I am an RN who recently landed her dream job of "stay-at-home mom." I have the world's most patient and loving husband, Ryan, and two kids - Luna (6) and James (1). We have a Puggle furbaby, Reggie, who enjoys teaming up with James against me.

We are currently Ohioans! Transplanted from California but absolutely LOVING this area - the perfect place to raise a family.

11 FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:

1. I have more than once voiced aloud that I'd love to be a motivation coach for dogs. (You know, the dog doesn't want to walk anymore and needs a personal cheerleader...that would be an amazing job. "C'mon Sparky! You are a super dog and you are doing so good! Keep it up!")
2. I love Harry Potter and the people who love Harry Potter. It's such a great community of people.
3. I moved a lot growing up: California, Colorado, North Carolina, Bermuda, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, back to California, back to Ohio.
4. I can whistle exactly like a bird but I don't like to show new people because the way I have to position my mouth looks embarrassing.
5. I love singing although I'm pretty mediocre. I make up songs multiple times a day and subject my family to having to listen to me sing them loudly.
6. I LOVE podcasts. Get ahold of me if you ever want a recommendation.
7. My favorite reading genre is "Self Help/Improvement". I can't get enough. For fiction I love classic young adult with a happy, cozy feel (think Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Little House on the Prairie.)
8. I love ALL crafting. Favorite things to do: sew, crochet, Project Life, memory keeping,
9. I can't sit and do nothing. It's nearly impossible. I am always working on something.
10. Notebook obsessed. I have a stupid amount of notebooks, all for various uses. I can look at an aisle of office supplies and notebooks for a stupid amount of time. My kind, patient husband allows for this. Bless his heart.
